TREAT INJURIES AND IMPROVE SPORT PERFORMANCE
Kinesiology taping uses elastic therapeutic tape to help decrease pain, speed up healing, and increase muscle endurance. Our clinic uses Rock Tape brand kinesiology tape which is 97% cotton and 3% nylon, making it hypo-allergenic. The tape is 2 inches or 4 inches wide and is custom cut along its length. Rock Tape stretches up to 180% along its length to allow joints to move through their full range of motion. This tape isn’t designed to limit motion, but rather to encourage motion. The tape lasts 3-5 days and it can be worn in the shower and while swimming.
How it works:
Have you ever noticed when you stub your toe or hit your thumb it feels better after rubbing it or shaking it out? There are pain receptors in your skin and by rubbing or shaking your injured area, you are actually interfering with pain signals that are directed to your brain. This is the same principle behind kinesiology tape. The tape is applied to the skin so it can interfere with pain signals that are directed to your brain to decrease the pain signal. Who doesn’t want less pain?
Kinesiology tape is elastic and the area applied is also stretched to create decompression of the area. This decompression has a lifting effect on the tissues below the tape allowing for an increase in blood flow and a decrease in swelling. With more blood flow the inflammatory bi-products can be removed more quickly to help speed up the healing process and reduce pain. An increase in blood flow also means an increase in muscle endurance for athletes.
